New Years Eve in Montreal, or kicking-off 2008 in style
2007 was a good year; we kept the car running with Arcade Fire, we got some international recognition, our dollar blew through the roof, everyone’s aunts are down south for the whole winter, condos are mushrooming in long-forgotten backyards, and The Police visited three times, all of which I missed.
And as if that’s not enough, Toronto is trying to steal our cultural fests, the US is trying to lure tourists from la Belle Province with our big dollars, the Conservatives are trying to pretend speaking French, and my friends are blasting a mortgage payment in a night at Cavalli or other hang-outs for the nouveau riche and now-not-so-young grads. Bref, 2007 was also funny.
Now, to top it all, we are all getting ready for New Years Eve. Getting ready doesn’t even sound right, it’s more like training, because NYE is now an international competition, a kind of Universal Exposition of excess and partying, spread across the big cities of our small planet. Where is this DJ going to spend his NYE? Who can get tables at that restaurant?
Definitely not us.
