Kaba Horo at the Montreal Jazz Fest
Alright, tonight I am hitting the Jazz Festival to see Kaba Horo (9PM, Carrefour General Motors, corner Jeanne-Mance and Maisonneuve W.). It’s hard to describe the band: they play traditional Bulgarian music, with a lot of Gypsy sound in there and some Turkish/Middle-Eastern influence. Occasionally, you can also hear the jazz drum beat. It definitely isn’t Jazz, and it definitely is better than the shit you listen to in your iPod right now.
As if my opinion isn’t enough, there is another point I want to add to my sales pitch for the Kaba Horo show at the Jazz fest tonight. Lubo Alexandrov, the front man of Kaba Horo, plays a fretless guitar. For the normal people out-there, that aren’t pretending to be artsi-fartsy like me, a fretless guitar is (obviously) a guitar without frets. A fretless guitar sounds different than a regular one, it is quite something to hear.
I suggest you don’t miss the show.
