There are few things more satisfying than a good old-fashioned celebrity
style transformation. Something about seeing a star unapologetically go
from slightly trashy to vintage chic with unbelievable ease, as though proving
to you that everything she does is intentionally done to mess with you, is
great to see. I don't even think Christina got a new stylist or anything.
It's all her doing, her prerogative, her genius! I knew she had it in her.
I've always loved Christina. You have to admit that although she may be
best known for sloshing around in a boxing ring full of feces-coloured liquid,
she's always had fashion balls. Now, however, she's metamorphosed into a
glamorous, tastemaking young woman in love (she's engaged to Jordan
Bratman, music executive). See below.

Christina chooses both soft and more severe pieces, but they always say
"feminine". Waists are cinched, thighs are subtly hugged, and lips are
painted with bright cherry and pink lacquers.

When venturing out with Jordan, Christina plays the part of the savvy
ingenue in pastels and soft knits. The fact that we all know she's far from
innocent makes this even better. I also respect that Ms. Aguilera has never
jumped on the Boho bandwagon, preferring to reinforce her natural poise,
instead of slovenliness (ahem, Mary Kate Olsen), through her clothing
choices.

Lately, Christina's been favouring some stunning retro looks, and thank
goodness, because somebody has got to keep that flame alive. She's truly
believable in her 1940s persona, adding her own risqué twist that makes me
want to break out my peep-toe pumps to go to the movies tonight. Take her
hair at right, for example; instead of appearing campy in such a
time-stamped style, Christina is utterly in charge.

Here's another example of her take on WWII-era fashion, as shown while
sitting in the audience at Jean-Paul Gaultier's Fall/Winter 2005/6 show in
Paris. A classic pinstripe blazer and skirt are quietly usurped by a
transparent camisole and lacy balconet (not to mention her fabulous
alabaster mounds), making for a fresh twist on conservatism that is very
Aguilera.

It's also nice to see that Christina hasn't lost her contemporary edge
entirely. After all, she was always known for pushing the envelope. Here
she is looking like a French model gone bumblebee - and somehow, pulling it off
brilliantly.

For the grand finale, my favourite ensemble of Christina's so far: an
alluring emerald bustier that shows off her figure to a T, coral lips,
just-right cuffed jeans, and a modern shoe.
Oh Christina, please let me into your closet!
