A Montreal tradition that is only rivaled by the Formula One Grand Prix, the International Jazz Festival starts Thursday June 26th in its usual energetic fashion. Amid an array of free outdoor shows and indoor concerts an expected 2 million visitors will be able to enjoy 10 days of vibrant music.
While this year’s big names, such as Ben Harper (Get CD!), Ray Charles (Get CD!), Mark Knopfler (Get CD!), and Norah Jones (Get CD!), are practically advertised everywhere, it is often the small outdoor shows that give the Montreal Jazz Festival its unique feel. Many people attending won’t be able to afford the increasing ticket prices, but instead might opt to savor the music in the humid summer heat. Over 350 outdoor shows with artists from various backgrounds, culminated by the “Grand Event Show” with the Spanish Harlem Orchestra (Get CD!) on Tuesday, should provide even the most demanding music lover with ample choice. Here are some of the main events taking place on the free outdoor stages.
