Sofa Lounge, 451 Rachel E.
by Montreal-Clubs.com Crew

Sofa Lounge, open since 1996, has developed a reputation as a classy venue that attracts a plethora of local celebrities. However, since last September things seem a little different there are 3 new owners in town: Darren, Françis, and JF. And they have come to rule the show. We decided to go bother them during the New Year’s Eve rush and ask a couple questions to Darren and one of their bartenders, Jasmine.

“All though the look and feel is still the same, we’ve added things like a dance floor and done a few renovations (and more are still to come)”, says Darren. “But, basically it still looks like what their patrons are used to so that they can still feel at home.” Darren used to be a bartender and he’s applying the tricks he learnt along the way. The major difference is the approach they are taking when dealing with their clients. They relaxed their previous elitist and pretentious image – there is more staff to serve the customers, the staff is encouraged to remember faces, drink preferences, and everyone is treated equal. “If there is a celebrity at the bar standing beside someone else, both waiting to be served…don’t ignore the other guy, he could become a regular” says Darren. He even walks around the bar with a tray of shooters which he happily gives out to his patrons. And on a personal note…the difference has been noticed!

Hey Jasmine, tell us, what’s the most ordered Porto?
Umm, Taylor Porto LBV

And what’s the most striking thing you remember happening here?
Well, this couple was making out on one of the couches in the back, but their underwear was on the floor!

This place is supposed to be a big local celebrity hangout, who’s the last celebrity that came in…other than us I mean?
Hehehe…I think it was Martin Petit.

Pfffff, he’s got nothing that we don’t have.

Interesting notes: Check out their happy hour every week day. Also their Wednesday “Resto au Sofa” – dine at some of Montreal’s hippest restaurants and get free entrance at Sofa to party with the resto’s staff…
