As highly anticipated as any event in the city, the Formula One circus is coming back into town this June. In less than two weeks Montreal will be host to one of the most excessive and lavish parties in North America.
Starting on Wednesday, June 11th, the glamorous and glittering world of Formula One racing will inundate the streets of Montreal making sure that no club or bar will be left empty. Whether you have actual tickets to the race or not, you’ll be hard-pressed to escape the fanfare and the drama.
The race weekend sheds a light on the city that lies in stark contrast with a modest and somewhat humbler festival period. The Air Canada Grand Prix is an event that goes all out, arduous and opulent and yet a spirited experience like few others. Beautiful and banal, captivating and captured. What makes this a truly special adventure is the fact that it presents the city in so many different ways. Crescent Street and Saint Laurent Boulevard will be transformed into exorbitant outdoor parties. The common eye will be tempted to wander among a plethora of gorgeous bodies, catching a glimpse of the glamour and the action. As the hot pavement succumbs under the heavy weight of expensive cars and stylish stiletto heals, the normal immortal may have a hard time swallowing a single ounce of reality. The Grand Prix weekend is an excursion into a dream world, you are destined to enjoy those four days of fun and excess before, on Sunday, an anticlimactic post race soiree sets in. The best bet is to just go out on either Crescent or Saint Laurent and see what is happening. Even though you might have difficulties finding seats on any patio or terrace, you’ll be bound to have a great time. The streets will be packed with action and the atmosphere will be warm and welcoming, almost to an unreal extent.
