Planning for New Years now made easier than planning for a wedding.

…Or how Montreal found another reason to party

by Sir Bender

Orange Day (April 30th) is Holland's national holiday. It's basically a celebration of the Queen's birthday even though her actual bday is not on the 30th. But then, why call it Orange Day? Experts, and by that we mean the google.com thingy, will tell you that it's not really called "Orange Day," but "Queen's Day." Seriously though, some people say it's because the colour represents the "House of Orange" - the name of the current Dutch dynasty…loosely translated though, we figured it means drinking for her Highness. Everything is better answered when you get to drink and party! And drink and party is exactly what these crazy Dutch do!

April 30th is the biggest party of the year in Holland. Everyone wears orange, goes nuts and drinks; well…it's your basic Friday night over there except that everyone wears orange on that day…which pretty much better than pink. Google…err…experts, also told us that Amsterdam turns into one big party with over a million attendees! Now we know what you're asking - what does this have to do with Montreal? Well up to this year, nothing much. But, in their infinite quest to bring Dutch culture to the rest of the world, the people at Grolsh said, "we want to throw an Orange Day party in Montreal - a party where people can drink, dance and party all night!…well 'till 3am anyway" And in our infinite quest for shameless promotion we said "we'll do it!" - even though we had no clue of what we were getting into…at the time we thought we were getting free stuff at the Orange Julep stand…not really stuff…just mainly Orange juice…

At this party, there are going to be specials on Grolsch and Sleeman…'cause you can't have a Dutch party without beer. There'll be some cool giveaways…'cause free stuff rocks and the 417 Soundcrew is going to be kicking some mean Hip Hop and R&B…'cause you can't really party without cool music and dancing...unless you can do like in those ads where people are having the time of their lives putting deodorant on, but that's an entirely different story…

So basically, Le Swimming is going to turn into Holland for one evening…this is probably a good time to let you all know that in Holland, the really cool women wear the least possible amount of clothing…so you don't want to embarrass us by showing the Grolsch people that woman here aren't cool…do you? We're sure you don't?

So all that's left, is for all of you out there to come join us on April 30th at Le Swimming, 3643 Saint Laurent…bring your friends and have a blast!
