The FRINGE Festival & Its Commercial Insanity or The Black Roses and La Vengeance de Popol
A bit overdone, the shows are in overall nice and …venturesome, generally speaking. And this comes to no surprise, as the performing arts festival has no restrictions on participation and absolutely anyone could perform; even better they could perform absolutely anything! What is this? Participation is determined by lottery with no restrictions on content and ah, that’s exactly where the problem is. Even you and I could go perform; now, this does not explain why people would pay to watch, does it? We went to see two of the shows so far, one of them was a weird mix of music concert, powerpoint presentation, and propaganda about wonderful Canada, polygamy, and masturbation; the other one—a crazy marionette show about some grunting evil guy called Popol who stuck his hands into other marionette’s asses, and finished with sticking his hand into God’s ass. I intend seeing this other so popular FRINGE art duo called Hanakengo, coco loco boco, and I expect that this will extinguish my curiosity for the FRINGE this year, and maybe even answer some of the questions that preoccupy my head at the moment, namely:
The lesson, as always, is that there shouldn’t always be a lesson in art for commerce’s sake. Cheers and enjoy! :: yeah, well here is what brigther people think about the Fringe ::
