I just did a search on the web and I almost can't find anything on Le Barbare. So we will be the first ones to properly review this bar. Here we go.

Le Barbare is located 200 meters north of Mont-Royal, on St-Denis Street. Probably because of its northern location, I had never noticed it before last week. I mean come-on, who ever goes north of Mont-Royal on St-Denis, except to go to Diable-Vert? (For those who aren't familiar with Montreal, I am trying to make a joke here, and a not very good one, by implying that there isn't anything north of Mont-Royal, which is extremely false)

What I like a lot about le Barbare is that it reminds me of a Paris bistro: its rectangular setting, the tables and bar and the overall setup of the space makes me think of a bistro. Basically, to me, a bistro is a place where you can walk-in and start drinking or eating at anytime of the day, without feeling weird. It's not a restaurant, with its hours for lunch or dinner, and it's not only a bar, with its late hours for drinking.

Also, the walls are decorated with original art, which is also probably for sale (I failed to verify that). Any establishment that lends its walls to artists gets my respect.

The food is top-notch bar food (burgers and the rest) and the music is good. Le Barbare is a perfect place for spending the night with friends.

Unfortunately, I don't think le Barbare brews any of its own beers. In the grand scheme of things, a part from its bistro-like atmosphere, le Barbare doesn't sport much to make it really stand-out from the bar-crowd.
