Right in the heart of Montreal’s Francophone hang outs (corner of Saint-Denis and Rachel), Le Dogue is a second floor bar that looks more like a happening loft party than anything else really. Although the one-floor venue is relatively big, it gets pretty packed. As well, the orange walls, the multitude of tables, the small dance floor and the pool table, give it the lofty feel I was talking about.
Typical of Saint-Denis venues, Le Dogue’s patrons do not take themselves seriously at all – a good escape from the see-and-be-seen attitude found a few blocks west, on Saint-Laurent. As a matter of fact, the bar resembles those in small towns across Quebec. The patrons are not overly dressed (not that they look scruffy), the music is mainly rock and you can even find what is commonly referred to as des quilles (710 ml bottles of beer). All in all, this is a very Québécois bar that has noting to prove. |
